Scientists have been researching ways to clone different items for a long time, but no one has found a way of doing it. People have thought it would be very cool to clone themselves for several different reasons -- some being extra work around the house, or just someone to have fun with. Most of these people don’t look at the negative side of this phenomenon. As awesome as it would be to have another you, they would completely take over your life, and here’s why.
Initially, they’re the same person as you. All of their past experiences, memories, thoughts, skills, talents, and academics are exactly the same as yours, therefore making them a representation of you. This person would be friends with the same people, live in the same house, and want to do everything you do, which could absorb your life. They would be competing for your friends, activities, and maybe even sports teams. If someone else has the exact same life as you, how would you possibly be compatible with each other in the same world? Their thoughts, ideas, and actions will be yours as well, and that’s not under your control, so how is this a good idea?
Who gets what? If a clone of yourself is made, you would have to somehow split up your belongings. It would be hard to share everything since you would both want to do the same thing after school. Creating a clone is useful for a couple things, one of those being that they could do your chores for you and help around the house while you relax and enjoy yourself. If they’re you, they are not going to be any more willing to do housework than you are, and in turn will just get angry at you. They could argue that you should do the housework and they get to relax, since you’re both the same person.
Finally, how would your clone get everything it needs to survive? Creating a clone is like bringing a new baby into the world. They would need a place to live, clothes to wear -- although they could just use your clothes, and food and water. Your parents would need to empty out a new room in your house, and pay for an entirely separate person. Not everyone could afford to have a clone, and it would only bring bad things.
In conclusion, clones are viewed as such a positive thing among society, but would it not just bring conflict and money troubles? You certainly wouldn’t want another you walking around society that you can’t control, because they could change other people’s opinions of you about something you didn’t do or had no say in whatsoever. Also, belongings would no longer be yours. Privacy wouldn’t be very common either since you always have you right next to you. This is why I think that clones would be a disastrous thing to release upon society.
